The art of Manhole Covers. Part 1

$50.00

Recently, we, the authors of this book, accidentally discovered photos of Japanese… manhole covers. And we wereamazed at how you can turn such a «boring» piece of urban infrastructure into an exampleof decorative and applied art. We decided thatwe had to assemble a collection of the most interesting, beautiful, and unusual manhole covers, and publish an album.

We hope that this book will inspire not only urban designers, but also all admirers of beautiful things made with love. Perhaps, after looking through this album, many travelers will pay attention to what literally lies beneath their feet.

For convenience, we have divided the images into thematic categories, depending on what is depicted, and also tried to indicate the location where a particular one was photographed by marking it with a colored dot on a silhouette map of Japan.

The first volume includes manhole covers thatwill be unusual for Europeans and Americans – they are painted in bright colors. And the second volume includes unpainted manhole covers, but their pictures are no less stunning; more precisely, they are bas-reliefs cast in metal.

We will be delighted if you share our surprise and admiration for the work of Japanese artists!
